Sheikh Borangi was among the famous master rug weavers of Mashad, Iran. Many experienced antique rug dealers and collectors especially those of Persian heritage, consider Borangi rugs, in general, as among those Mashad rugs that are: "priceless," "first class," "rare masterpieces," "particularly high value," and part of a "magnificent collection"(Hassan Fatemi, Tableau rugs, Hans Saghaei, Rug Firm, Reza Tabesh, Tabesh Carpet Co.)
According to Persian rug expert Hans Saghaei of Rug Firm, "Mashad rugs are very long-lasting and some of the old pieces, especially if they have a well-known signature, are among the most valuable Persian rugs. Rugs signed by master weavers such as Sheikh Borangi "hold a particularly high value just because of the signature."
This particular masterpiece is an authentic Borangi. Please note the skillful weaving and high-quality calligraphy in the signature. The rug is in antique condition. Consistent with its age, several areas in the rug have significant wear and low pile, resulting in a delightful and authentic patina, while other areas in the rug have an even, medium pile. Since this rug has been in my care, it has been lovingly cared for, which means: no shoes, no pets, no smoke, and has been kept rolled up in a climate controlled environment free of bugs, mold and moisture. It has been professionally dusted, vacuumed and hand-washed the old fashioned way using premium wool care products, and rinsed in free flowing water over and over to ensure a clean and hygienic rug. It has not been used since it was washed and has been kept rolled up.
